Rome/Milan/Copenhagen, 27 September 2024
GreenIT, the Italian renewable energy joint venture between Plenitude (company controlled by Eni) and CDP Equity (CDP Group), and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its Flagship Funds, have announced the launch of Divento, the new naming of the partnership dedicated to the development of a 3 GW portfolio of 5 floating offshore wind projects in Italy.
Once operating, the plants located approximately 30 km off the coasts of Sicily, Latium and Sardinia, will produce approximately 8TWh of renewable energy, enough to satisfy the electricity consumption of around 2,5 million Italian households, and will contribute to Italy’s decarbonization goals as outlined in the 2030 National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan.
Divento’s offshore wind projects will use floating foundations, in development with innovative technical solutions to minimize environmental and visual impacts. The projects will also benefit from technological and logistic synergies with the other offshore wind initiatives managed within the Divento partnership.
The partnership has the ambition to open the path for floating offshore wind in the Mediterranean and, thanks to its financial and industrial strength, to become a key player in the Italian market. Divento has already obtained the EIA Decree for 7Seas Med (250MW), one of the partnership’s projects, on 21st March 2024, thus becoming the first EIA approval for a large offshore wind farm in the Mediterranean. This important milestone is the result of five years of active development and stakeholder engagement.
Copenhagen Offshore Partners is coordinating the development for the Divento portfolio together with GreenIT, as well as iLS and 7SeasWind Power, the original founders of the projects.
“The launch of Divento comes at a crucial time for offshore wind industry in Italy. Our Sicilian project, 7Seas Med, has just obtained the first EIA Decree for these type of large-scale plants that, thanks to the new technology based on floating foundations, will be installed far from the coast and benefit the best winds”, says Alessandro Della Zoppa, Head of Renewables, Plenitude.
“CDP aims to be at the forefront of the Italian energy transition, a “just transition” is in our DNA and in what we do every day. Since we started back in 2022 the collaboration with our Partners, we had the vision that the development of the floating offshore wind industry had a huge potential for Italy, and for its positioning within the Mediterranean Sea.”, says Davide Manunta, Head of Equity Investments & Portfolio Management, CDP Equity.
“We are excited to announce the new name and logo for our Italian partnership on floating offshore wind. The Italian market for floating wind has strong long-term fundamentals and the Divento consortium is ideally positioned to leverage the market opportunities”, said Michael Hannibal, Partner at CIP.

Rome/Milan/Copenhagen, 22 March 2023
The partnership strengthens its commitment to the Italian offshore wind floating industry with three new projects located approximately 30 km off the coasts of Latium and Sardinia The three wind farms make the consortium one of the largest developers in the sector in Italy, with a pipeline totaling almost 3 GW, enough to satisfy the electricity consumption of around 2,5 million households
GreenIT, the Italian renewable energy joint venture between Plenitude (Eni) and CDP Equity (CDP Group), and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) through its Flagship Funds have signed an agreement to develop three floating offshore wind projects in Latium and Sardinia. The plants will be located on average roughly 30 km off from the coast and have an overall capacity of approximately 2 GW.
The agreement involves the development of a project in Latium, off the coast of Civitavecchia, for a total capacity up to 540 MW and two other wind farms located off the coast of Olbia (Sardinia), with a power of around 500 MW and 1,000 MW. Combined the three projects will produce around 5 TWh/year with commercial operation expected between 2028-2031 once the authorization process and subsequent construction phase are completed.
The partnership’s offshore wind portfolio in Italy will thus reach almost 3 GW with a yearly production of around 7 TWh of renewable energy, enough to satisfy the electricity consumption of around 2,5 million households[1] and contributing to the decarbonization objectives of the 2030 National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan.
The three offshore projects will be using floating foundations, utilizing innovative technical solutions aimed at minimizing environmental and visual impact and will benefit from technological and logistic synergies with the other offshore wind initiatives managed within the same partnership.
The wind farms will be developed by a joint working team, in collaboration with Copenhagen Offshore Partners - the exclusive offshore wind development partner of CIP - and NiceTechnology and 7 Seas Wind Power, Italian companies with proven experience in the offshore plant sector, which have collaborated with GreenIT and CIP on the deployment of two other wind farms in Sicily and Sardinia.
This new agreement represents an additional strategic step and a firm commitment to strengthening the floating offshore wind industry in Italy, providing a significant contribution towards a low carbon future as well as encouraging the development of the local supply chain.
San Donato Milanese, 6 April 2022 –
The floating platforms will be realized in Sicily and Sardinia more than 35 km from the respective coasts. The innovative projects will allow to increase the production of green energy and minimise environmental impact, preventing up to 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, while promoting the growth of the local and national renewable industry. They will produce about 50% of additional energy, with the same power, compared to an onshore wind farm. That is equivalent to the consumption of nearly 750,000 families in the areas interested by the intervention
GreenIT, a joint venture between Plenitude and CDP Equity for the production of energy from renewable sources, and CI IV, a fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), have signed an agreement to develop two floating offshore wind farms in Sicily and Sardinia. Both projects are located more than 35 km from the coast and have a total capacity of approximately 750MW.
The agreement refers to the development, construction and operation of a project in Sicily, off the coast of Marsala, consisting of 21 turbines with a power of around 12MW each for a total capacity of around 250MW, and a second wind farm to be developed in the sea area facing the south-western coast of Sardinia, consisting of 42 wind turbines with a power of around 12MW each for a total capacity of more than 500MW.
The two projects will be developed in Sicily with the support of Lilybeo Wind Power S.r.l., and in Sardinia with the support of Nice Technology and 7 Seas Wind, both companies with proven experience in the development of offshore plants as well as minority partners. The wind farms will use floating platforms and implement innovative technological solutions aimed at minimising environmental and visual impact, as well as promoting the development of local and national industry.
The two wind farms will produce more than 2,000 GWh/year, which is equivalent to the average annual energy consumption of approximately 750,000 households in the involved areas that represent an increase of around 50% more than the average output of an onshore wind farm in Italy, at the same average installed capacity.
Operations scheduled to start in 2026 in Sicily and 2028 in Sardinia at the end of the authorization process and following construction.
The initiative will prevent around 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year, thus contributing to the decarbonisation objectives of the 2030 National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan and to the development of the floating offshore wind sector in Italy. This agreement represents an important and strategic step for floating offshore wind projects in Italy, providing a significant contribution towards a low carbon future.
